Rikkyo School in England – Art Exhibition 2020/21 <Introducing a slide show of the lesson report of Mrs Batchelor, who is in charge of ART at our school, and the works of the students>

Work in this exhibition was created by students of Rikkyo school during their school art lessons in the Autumn term 2020 and also in their remote art lessons during Spring 2021. The over-arching theme for the Autumn term was “Trees” and students explored this theme looking at the work of artists such as David Hockney. Students worked to develop their understanding of warm/cool colour contrasts, aerial perspective and colour mixing.
During the Spring term, students worked remotely with weekly lessons set online. The younger students studied Pop Art food, looking at the work of American artist Wayne Thiebaud, Tom Wesselmann’s vibrant collages and contemporary artist Hiroshi Mori. Students in M2 studied Jasper Johns whilst M3 students focused on improving their observational drawing skills with close-up studies of everyday objects. In the higher years, H1 students delved into artists’ use of the skull as a motif and H2 reflected the experience of many people during lockdown with their project based on the view through their window. I have included the work of as many students as possible in this virtual exhibition to celebrate their achievements and commitment to creativity during this extraordinary year.
