春休みがはじまって、高等部1年生と2年生の8名がHorshamにあるCollyer’s Collegeへ1週間の短期留学に行ってきました。生徒たちがどんなことを体験し、どんなことを感じてきたのかを共有したいと思います。

I went to Collyer’s College for a week to study. I took classes in Biology, Business, and Drama. It was really difficult, but the student sitting next to me helped me, so I was able to keep up with the class.
At Collyer’s College, I didn’t just learn about those three subjects. I also experienced the atmosphere of a local school and learned about my own level of English.
The atmosphere at the school was so free and relaxed that, compared to Japan, it might even be described as chaotic. However, when the teacher asked questions, all the students were able to answer. I felt a sense of “It’s okay as long as you can do it.”
I also realized my current level of English. I was able to listen and give basic answers, but I didn’t have the language skills to tell deeper stories or make jokes. I think this was the biggest reason why I didn’t fully fit in at the local school.
From now on, I will use this experience as motivation to improve my English.
