6月19日(土)に開催されたオンライン国際シンポジウム『緒方貞子さんの思いを受け継ぐーアフリカと日本を結んでー』に本校の生徒が参加をしました。
本シンポジウムを終えた高校３年生と中学２年生の感想をご紹介いたします。

緒方貞子さんの思いを受け継ぐ、国際シンポジウムに参加して
僕が今回参加した国際シンポジウムは、国連難民高等弁務官として世界の難民のためにご尽力され、92歳で亡くなられた緒方貞子さんの想いを若い世代へ引き継ぐためのシンポジウムだった。このシンポジウムで僕が特に印象に残ったのはWFPの物流担当に勤務されている金田さんのお話だった。
国連唯一の食料機関であるWFPは必要な人に栄養のある食事を提供しているそうだ。彼女が、このような職業につくことを考えるようなきっかけは東日本大震災で、物流の専門性が社会の役に立つと考え、人道支援協会、物流に携わろうと思ったからだそうだ。彼女の話の中でも、一番心に残ったのが、自分の大切なもの・人が書かれたカードを５枚書き、自分が難民になった体ですすめるゲームの話だった。このゲームは難民であるというシチュエーションで、先程作ったカードを一枚ずつ後ろに捨てていくというゲームだ。その時のクラスの生徒の中にガザから来ていた方がいて、その方が最後まで残していたのは「お母さん」というカードだった。彼女はもともと難民だったそうで、彼女の実体験から、どうしても捨てられないと涙ぐんでいたそうだ。先進国から来ていた人の目線からは、ゲームを楽しんでいただけだったが、彼女は、自分の体験から、このゲームを純粋にゲームとして楽しめなかったのだと思う。僕も以前通っていた学校でこのようなプログラムがあった。そのときには、ソマリアの同じ年齢の学生と、ZOOMでつないで話したのを覚えている。実体験とシンクロする生徒と同じ時間を共有した経験は、今の自分の国際協力に対しての考えをガラッと変えたと思う。例えば、彼の国では、雨季になると車が通れなくなるほど、道が湿気てしまい飛行機でないと食事を運べないことがあったと聞いた。食料の空中投下のときには現地住民の方々が協力して、食料を安全に確保することができるそうだ。
僕は、この２つの話を聞いてから、自分がいかに恵まれた環境に生きているかを改めて痛感した。また、自分の今後の生活の中でクラスメイトや寮の中で協調性を持つことの大切さと、この世界に難民や困難の中にある方々が沢山いることを再認識することもできた。今後もこのシンポジウムを忘れずに、この様な恵まれた環境で学べているのだからこそ、しっかりと勉強し、いろんなことを深く理解し、世界の問題を解決できる大人になれるように努力しようと強く思った。
“Carrying on Sadako Ogata’s thoughts”, participating in the international symposium
The international symposium I attended this time was to pass on the memory of Sadako Ogata, who died at the age of 92 after working for refugees around the world as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to the younger generation. What particularly impressed me at the symposium was a speech by Ms Kaneda, who works in the logistics department of the WFP.
She said that WFP, the only food agency in the UN, provides nutritious meals to people in need. She was inspired to work in this kind of profession after the Great East Japan Earthquake, when she thought that her expertise in logistics would be useful to society, and wanted to be involved in the Humanitarian Aid Association and logistics. The most memorable part of her talk was a game in which you write five cards with your important people and things and play as if you were a refugee. In this game, you have to throw away the cards you have just made one by one. One of the students in the class was from Gaza, and the card she had left until the end was “Mother”. She had originally been a refugee and her real life experience had left her in tears as she could not leave it behind even so. From the point of view of someone who had come from a developed country, she was just enjoying the game, but I think her own experience prevented her from enjoying this game purely as a game. I used to go to a school where we had a programme like this. I remember talking to a student of the same age from Somalia via ZOOM. I think the experience of sharing the same time with students who were in sync with my actual experience completely changed my current thinking about international cooperation. For example, he told me that in his country, during the rainy season, the roads were so damp that cars could not get through, and food could only be transported by plane. When food is dropped in the air, the local people work together to ensure that the food is taken safely. After listening to these two stories, I realized again how fortunate I am and how important it is to cooperate.
This symposium made me realise that there are many refugees and people in difficulties in this world, and has changed my mind about international issues in the future. I will keep this symposium in my mind and try to study hard, understand many things deeply and become an adult who can solve world problems.
